MORATUWA STUDENTS WIN NATIONAL PAVILION DESIGN AT EXPO 2020 DUBAI AND SECURE AN INTERNATIONAL SPONSORSHIP FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SRI LANKA PAVILION

For the first time in EXPO exhibition history, countries were given the opportunity of designing their national pavilion through a design competition organized by EXPO Dubai 2020 (which was planned for 2020- 2021, however, due to the pandemic situation, was held in 2021-2022). The competition was organized through the Creative Youth Program of the exhibition, which aimed at empowering, engaging, and involving youth in national innovation endeavours.

Prabathiya Herath becomes the Sri Lankan Champion in IMechE SOFE Competition 2021

Mr. Prabathiya Herath, a student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME), representing the University of Moratuwa (UoM) became the Sri Lankan Champion of Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) competition 2021, organized by IMechE Sri Lanka Group. Mr. Ranuka Perera from Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) became the runner-up in the competition.

ENTC Team Becomes the 2nd Runners Up of the IEEE Video and Image Processing Cup 2021

A team of undergraduate students (Team NFPUndercover) from the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (ENTC), University of Moratuwa, became the 2nd runner up in the IEEE Video and Image Processing Cup (VIP Cup) 2021 competition at the 28th International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2021. The team consists of four ENTC undergraduates, Mr. Jathurshan Pradeepkumar, Mr. Udith Haputhanthri, Mr. Mohamed Afham and Ms. Mithunjha Anandakumar. Mr. Ashwin de Silva tutored the team, and Dr. Chamira Edussooriya supervised the team.

A webinar titled “Future Prospects of Sri Lankan Food Industry – An attempt to transcend the boundaries”, organized by the Research for Undergraduates (R4U) Club of Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa was held on the 31st of July 2021 via Zoom. The webinar was conducted as the fourth event of the “Explorer” series organized by the current executive board of the R4U club.

ENTC team from UoM won the first place in the IEEE SP Cup 2021 Competition in the ICASSP 21 Conference

A team of undergraduate students (Team T- Cubed) from the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering (ENTC) under the supervision of Dr. Prathapasinghe Dharmawansa from ENTC, University of Moratuwa, won the first place in the IEEE Signal Processing Cup (SP Cup) 2021




ADB Funded LECO-UOM Microgrid Project Launched in Partnership with DIMO and DHYBRID

Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) together with the University of Moratuwa (UOM) launched a pioneering pilot project on Microgrid with a grant assistance of $ 1.8 million  from Asian Development Bank (ADB). DIMO, together with the German specialist DHYBRID, has been selected for the supply of comprehensive Renewable Energy Microgrid consisting of power generation and storage, a model which can be scaled up for uninterrupted power distribution for customers across the country.
