Course objectives

The CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum in Cisco Networking Academy is designed for students who are seeking entry-level jobs in the ICT industry or hope to fulfill prerequisites to pursue more specialized ICT skills. CCNA Routing and Switching provides extensive coverage of networking topics, from fundamentals to advanced applications and services, with plenty of opportunities to gain hands-on practical experience and develop career skills. In each course, students learn technology concepts with the support of interactive media and apply and practice this knowledge through a series of hands-on and simulated activities that reinforce learning.

This course teaches learners how to install, operate, configure, and verify a basic IPv4 and IPv6 network, including configuring a LAN switch, configuring an IP router, identifying basic security threats, understanding redundant typologies, troubleshooting common network issues, connecting to a WAN, configuring EIGRP and OSPF in both IPv4 and IPv6, understanding wide-area network technologies, and getting familiar with device management and Cisco licensing.

There are four (04) core modules in the CCNA R&S Version 6 curricular.

Introduction to Networks

By the end of the course, students will be able to build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes.

Routing and Switching Essentials

By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with virtual LANs and interVLAN routing in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks.

Scaling Networks

By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, and STP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement a WLAN in a small-to-medium network.

Connecting Networks

By the end of this course, students will be able to configure PPPoE, GRE, single-homed eBGP, extended IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement a WLAN in a small-to-medium network. For LANs, students will be able to configure SNMP and Cisco SPAN. Students will also develop knowledge about QoS and the trends in networking including Cloud, virtualization, and SDN. 

Additional Modules (Electives)

University of Moratuwa - Cisco networking Center will offer four (04) elective modules with this program to improve the level of knowledge of students. Nevertheless, they (students) will be eligible to obtain certificates for each module via Cisco Networking Academy.

Further Training

In addition to all of above, students will get the opportunity to join with online public technical sessions (Webex) as well as institutional Webex sessions organized by University of Moratuwa - Cisco Networking Center.

  • Weekend Batch 01 - (Saturday 8.30 am -  12.30 pm)**
  • Weekend Batch 02 - (Sunday 8.30 am -  12.30 pm) or (Sunday 1.30 pm -  5.30 pm)**

** Practical sessions and individual lab activities will be scheduled in a separate time slot.
