Postgraduate Research Degree Programmes

The Department of Building Economics offers the following postgraduate research degree programmes;

MASTER OF SCIENCE (MSC) (WITH A MAJOR COMPONENT OF RESEARCH)

This is a one-year, full time (or two-year part time) programme aimed mainly at fresh graduates interested in pursuing postgraduate research.

MASTEROF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL)

This is a two-year, full-time (or three-year, part-time) programme aimed at enabling students to develop their capabilities to a level for pursuing PhD studies and to show originality in the application of knowledge.

DOCTOROF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)

This is a three-year, full-time (or five-year part-time) programme aimed at enabling students to develop their capabilities to conduct independent research and to transfer knowledge at the forefront of a discipline by making an original contribution to knowledge.The Department also offers joint PhD programmes with foreign universities. This allows the selected PhD students to carry out their research under the guidance of a team of supervisors from both universities and obtain a PhD from both.

If you are interested in applying to any of the above research degree programmes at the Department, you should first contact a potential supervisor in line with your research interests from among the senior academic staff of the Department. This staff member will then:

  • evaluate your eligibility to register for the degree of your choice, and
  • work with you to develop a research proposal that will form part of your online application
  • recommend course modules appropriate for your programme.
