The Inauguration Ceremony of the new intake for Faculty of Architecture 22/23, was held on 21st March 2023 at Prof. Rupert Pieris Auditorium at University of Moratuwa. In addition Department of Architecture had it's own session for the students of B.Arch (Hons) and BLA (Hons) degree programmes at the Department Auditorium later that evening. The new intake comprises 94 students and 64 students respectively for B.Arch (Hons) and BLA (Hons) degree programmes. The students will also participate in an orientation programe from 22nd to 25th March 2023.

Major Design Project (MDP) 2022 of Level 3 of the B.Arch (Hons) Degree programme was held from 6th to 10th December 2022.

Programme review by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for BLA (Hons) at Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa was held on 13th and 14th October 2023.

Paying homage to the 61-year-old history of Architecture Education in Sri Lanka, we the Department of Architecture celebrate 50 years as a Department at the University of Moratuwa in 2022. Although architectural education commenced in Sri Lanka in 1961, it was established at the ‘Department of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa’ only 50 years ago, in 1972. The Department was officially commenced in 1972, as a course offered by the University of Ceylon’s Katubedda Campus which is University of Moratuwa today.

Dr. Janaka Wijesundara participated at SMUS Conference India 2023 Organized by Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee- 247 667. Uttarakhand State, India in collaboration with Global Center of Spatial Methods for Urban Sustainability set up at TU Berlin, Germany, from 24^th and 25^th February, 2023, as an invited speaker and a session chairman. His presentation was titled “Assessing urban safety and comfort of urban public spaces for sustainable urbanization; case of Colombo, Sri Lanka ”.

Prof. Dr. Rainer Hirth - Coburg University, Germany delivered a guest lecture on Sustainable Construction at Department of Architecture on 07th March 2023 on the invitation by Prof. Upendra Rajapaksha.

Alliance Francaise de Kandy invited B.Arch Level 04 students from Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa and MA students from ENSAM-La Réunion were invited to design eco-responsible projects for the site and premises of Alliance Française de Kandy. The project was aligned with the B.Arch Level 04 Orientation Design Project and was concluded with an external critique comprising a panel of international jurors from ENSAM-La Réunion and Alliance Française in February 2023.

Architect & Urban Planner Madhav Joshi and Architect Anubha Joshi from - Madhav Joshi and Associates, India, visited Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa on 2nd February 2023 on the invitation of Dr. Janaka Wijesundara (Head of Department) and the party made a special visit to B.Arch Level 4 studio.

Deshamanya Vidya Jyothi Architect Ashley de Vos , Archt. Madumali Sumanadasa, Archt. Dr. Narein Perera (Year Coordinator) and Archt. Dr. Shalini Cooray (Year Coordinator) was present at the occasion.

Ar. Deepa Rani R. (Associate Professor), Department of Architecture, College of Engineering, Trivandrum, Thiruvananthapuram, India, and 20 architecture students visited Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa on the invitation of Dr. Janaka Wijesundara (Head of Department), on 23rd January 2023. The students from the two schools met for an interactive session.

B.Arch Level One Portfolio Examination and Exhibition was held on 11th February 2023.
