“Origin of Architects” Public Awareness Art Competition organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects

3 students from B. Arch '20 batch of Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa have emerged as the winners of the “Origin of Architects” Public Awareness Art Competition organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects. 
1st Place - P.G. Nirmala Chathurani Ranasinghe 
2nd Place - M.A.H. Sharada 
3rd Place - G. Tharusha Sanjula Malshan

The winning artwork by P.G. Nirmala Chathurani Ranasinghe will have the honour of being published in the SLIA Year Book 2023.

Shikara Silva & Sajani Senadheera have received Honourable mentions in THE GREAT GREEN WALL - UIA International Student Competition.

 

The "Young Power" Category in the Second Stage of Tubądzin Design Awards 2022

Shikara Silva of the B. Arch 17' Batch of the Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa. Shikara has emerged Runner-up in the "Young Power" Category in the second stage of Tubądzin Design Awards 2022.

Sanduni Lenadora (B.Arch Hons) 16 Batch Wins The Dr. Roland Silva Award for the Most Outstanding Faculty Of Architecture Graduand of the Year 2021 At The 43rd General Convocation 2023

Sanduni Lenadora, from B. Arch 16 Batch of our Department, was awarded the Deshamanya Dr. Roland Silva Award for the Most Outstanding Faculty of Architecture Graduand of the Year 2021 at the 43rd General Convocation 2023 of University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, an honour she received for her stellar academic performance, demonstration of leadership qualities and interpersonal skills and active participation in extracurricular activities. She was also awarded with the Gold medal for the Architecture Graduand who has obtained the highest overall Grade Point Average of 3.8 or above at the Bachelor of Architecture Honours Degree examinations (Donated by Sri Lanka Institute of Architects).

Sanduni has been an exemplary student throughout her years at the Department and has excelled not just in academic work but also in competitions, extra-curricular activities, leadership initiatives and voluntary work. She has engaged in leadership activities within the department and was an active participant in events organized by the SLIA. She was a member of CSM and YATHRA 2020 choirs, the Dancing troupe (Bharatanatyam), netball, Mora Hiking Club and Girl Guiding. With a passion for the arts, Sanduni is also a freelance artist and designer and an avid member of the Plain Tea Talk Space weekly discussion forum and the Lanka Comic Con and Colombo Comic Expo communities.

We congratulate Sanduni on her brilliant achievements and exceptional demonstration of a true all-rounder and wish her the best of luck in future endeavours!

National Finals of Asia Young Designer Awards 2021, organized by Nippon Paints

SHIKARA SILVA - selected as one of the finalists of the INSPIRELI AWARD - the world's largest student competition

Mr. Shikara Silva, a level 3 student in the Bachelor of Architecture programme at the Department of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, has been selected as one of the finalists of "The sixth edition of the INSPIRELI AWARD, the world's largest student competition,"

The design has been selected for the final 31 projects among  "1286 projects, 1308 participants, 89 countries"  in the category of Architecture.

AYDA- Asia Young Designer Award (Architecture Catagory)  l  2019/2020  

The best Design Impact Award (International level) & Gold Medal ( National level)

M.B.C.M. Gawarammana of Department of Architecture won both 'The best Design Impact Award (International level)' & 'Gold Medal ( National level)' at AYDA (Asia Young Designer Award Competition organized by NYPPON Paint for his final year Comprehensive Design Project, 2019, 'Cultural and Industrial Exposure, Gem Promotional Center @ Rathnapura'.

The whole project is in a base of its theoretical position in which, additive architectural components can lead to reflect any cultural statement while fulfilling the fictionalaspects which relates. The main idea behind this design thesis is to reveal the real treasure in the gem industry which the majority haven't caught into their eyes. The project has come up with a methodology to  promote the Gem industry in a particular manner while developing its background and other related cultural aspects. The design focus to add value to the community and the real owners of these treasures.

WLA Awards Students' Category  l 2018 l Award of Excellence

Nipun Hettiarachchi of Department of Landscape Architecture won the award of excellence (winner) of WLA 2018- Students category for his final year Comprehensive Design Project -'A Moving Story-National Geo Monument Park'.

ARCASIA Students' Design Competition l 2016 l Hong Kong l Bronze Meddle

Yashodhara Ranasinghe of Department of Architecture won the Bronze medal of ARCASIA 2016-Student Design Competition held in Hong Kong for her final year Comprehensive Design Project- 'Resilient Resettlement: Post Disaster Reconstruction' @ Poonagala for Plantation Community Displaced Due to Meeriyabedda Landslide

The project is a 'resettlement program' for the line house community who displaced due to landslide (specifically in Meeriyabedda and all the landslides in general) and it is to be launched as a time concern, low cost building system as a proper solution for areas where there is landslide vulnerability. At the same time, the program supports the native social, cultural, technological values of the community to familiarize the set up and encourages the user to incrementally grow/develop physically, mentally and economically.

ICCPP 2018 - 3rd Best Paper Award I  UMAKARAN MENALANAN

Umakaran Menalanan, the final year Undergraduate Landscape Architecture student from the faculty of Architecture University of Moratuwa. Received the greater achievement award for the Third Best paper in the 6th International Conference on Cities, People & Places conference (ICCPP) -2018 in the theme of “Socializing Cities” creating people-centered street and places on 05th & 06th of October 2018 at Sri Lankan Foundation Institute, Colombo.

He published his paper under the heading to indicate the purpose at the state in Jaffna Division in the Northern Province concerning ‘Socializing cities’ through “The Impact of Transformation of Cultural Landscape on Social behavioral patterns in Jaffna “in with the able assistance and coordination of Dr.D.P. Chandrasekara of Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa. Its clearly discussed the Transformation of the cultural landscape of Jaffna after 1980 to to-date and with how its impacts on the social & behavioral patterns of Jaffna people.


 

Students of Landscape Architecture participates at the 55th International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Congress, Singapore 2018

Seven students of the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Hons.) degree programme represented the University of Moratuwa at the 55th International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Congress held in Singapore from 18th-21st July 2018.

The conference saw a large gathering of Landscape Architects from around the world sharing their thoughts and research in the field of Landscape Architecture in the world context. We are happy to note that for the first time the newly formed BLA programme was represented and Two students presented their research at the conference, with the undergraduate research of all seven students being chosen for publication.
