Professor Ruwan Gopura has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Moratuwa with effect from 20.01.2024.
Prof. Gopura has been an integral part of the university community since 2010 when he joined as a Senior Lecturer. His journey within the University saw him progress through various key positions, including Professor, Director of Research, and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering as well as Head of the Department of Medical Technology, Faculty of Medicine.
An alumnus of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. Gopura earned his first degree in 2004, followed by a Master’s degree from the same University and PhD from Saga University in Japan.
His contributions extend beyond academia as he has actively engaged in national-level initiatives, such as serving as a Resource Person for the Ministry of Education since 2011. He has also played significant roles in committees overseeing corporate strategy and quality assurance in the field of education.
He is a senior member of IEEE and served as the Chairperson of IEEE Sri Lanka Section in 2020 and Chair- IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Sri Lanka Section Chapter (2017 to 2020).
Recognized for his outstanding work, Prof. Gopura has received numerous awards, His research excellence is further underscored by awards such as the Best Paper awards at prominent international conferences.
Prof. Gopura holds a number of patents and he has published more than 150 journals and conference articles.
