Master of Spatial Planning, Management and Design

1 The Department of Town & Country Planning, University of  Moratuwa, the premier academic institute in Sri Lanka that offers courses in planning, is proud to announce the seventh ( 7th ) intake of international postgraduate degree programme titled Master of Spatial Planning, Management and Design in collaboration with La Trobe University, Australia. The course is unique in its content and is the first postgraduate degree in Sri Lanka that offers student exchange, and inter-international university credit transfer facility for subject modules. In this programme students are also facilitated to and obtain degrees from both universities (Double Degrees) by completing selected parts of the degree in either of the two Universities.

The degree is accredited by the respective professional institutes of Australia and Sri Lanka. The lectures are conducted by both local and foreign experts in respective fields. The course mainly consists of Regional Planning Studio, Urban Planning & Design Studio, Site Planning Studio and modules related to Planning, Management & Spatial Design.

The course duration is two (02) years that consist of four (04) semesters. The regular lectures of the course will be conducted on Fridays and Saturdays. During project works, the students are required to be present in the studio regularly for a period of 02-04 weeks in every semester. At the same time, the students are expected to engage in minimum of 12 hours a week of independent studies.

Each applicant must satisfy at least one of the below eligibility criteria (a-f):
a. The Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science in Town & Country Planning of the University of Moratuwa

Or

b. Any Bachelors Degree of at least five years duration in Architecture from a recognized University as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate

Or

c. Any Bachelors Degree of at least four years duration in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Transport & Logistics Management, Quantity Surveying, Facilities Management, Agriculture, Economics, Estate Management & Valuation, Geography, Law, Sociology from a recognized university as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate

Or

d. Bachelor of Built Environment Degree from the University of Moratuwa and Minimum of one year post-qualifying experience in the area of planning and urban development as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate2

Or

e. Any other Degree of at least three years duration in a relevant field from a recognized university as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate and Minimum of one year post-qualifying experience in area of planning and urban development as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate


f. A recognized category of membership of a recognized Professional Institute in a relevant field obtained through an academic route, as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate and Minimum of one year post-qualifying experience in area of planning and urban development as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.
