Prof. Ruwan Gopura Appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies

Professor Ruwan Gopura has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Moratuwa with effect from 20.01.2024. Prof. Gopura has been an integral part of the university community since 2010 when he joined as a Senior Lecturer. His journey within the University saw him progress through various key positions, including Professor, Director of Research, and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering as well as Head of the Department of Medical Technology, Faculty of Medicine.

COMMENCEMENT OF THE OFFICIAL DUTIES OF THE NEW YEAR - 2024

The University of Moratuwa commenced official duties of the New Year on 1st January 2024 by hoisting of the National Flag followed by the National Anthem and remembering the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Subsequently, the academic, administrative, and non-academic staff of the University took the Oath of Public Servants, led by the Vice-Chancellor, setting the tone for a year of commitment and excellence in service.

Commemorating 50 Years of Excellence: University of Moratuwa Unveils Special Stamp and First Day Cover

On 13th December 2023, the Philatelic Bureau of Sri Lanka issued a commemorative stamp marking the 50 years of excellence and remarkable journey of the University of Moratuwa. Established as the 'Ceylon College of Technology (CCT)' at Katubedda, the University earned its University status as the 'Katubedda Campus' of the University of Ceylon on 15th February 1972.

Professor Monte Cassim Appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa

Professor Monte Cassim has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa with effect from October 9, 2023. This announcement marks a significant development for the university, known for its excellence in education and research. Professor Cassim, currently serves as the President and Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Akita International University of Japan which brings with him a wealth of academic and administrative experience. His impressive credentials include being an Invited University Professor at Kyoto University and the Principal Investigator at the Biophotonics & Spectroscopy Laboratory in the Graduate School of Medicine.

4 Staff Members of the Dept. of Chemical and Process Engineering, UoM Honoured with Presidential Awards

Four esteemed academic staff members of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Moratuwa (UoM) have been honored with Presidential Awards in recognition of their remarkable contributions to scientific research. The distinguished recipients include Senior Professor Ajith de Alwis, Professor Mahinsasa Narayana, Dr. Ms. Thilini Ariyadasa, and Dr. Ms. Duleeka Gunarathne.

BRU Initiates collaborations with the N/LAB, University of Nottignham

A team from the N/LAB, University of Nottingham, UK visited the University of Moratuwa (UoM) on the 2nd November 2023. N/LAB is the centre of excellence at the University of Nottingham, developing and applying innovative research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning and Human Behaviour in projects targeting social good. During their visit to University of Moratuwa, Dr James Goulding - Director of the N/LAB conducted a Seminar on “AI and Big Data for Social Goods”. He talked about some of N/LAB projects in, and how the lab's work is helping to produce new innovations in Health, Nutrition and Food Insecurity in the UK, as well as contributing to international development in areas of Mobility, Poverty and Social Vulnerability. Staff and students from the Business, Engineering, and Information Technology faculties attended the seminar held at the auditorium of the Faculty of Business. There were participants from the University of Peradeniya and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as well.

AIESEC in University of Moratuwa: Levering Legacy to More Beyond

AIESEC in University of Moratuwa was the first ever established local committee in Sri Lanka back in 1995. It is most known for its unwavering and outstanding commitment and dedication from its young leaders. The result of the utter dedicated young talent is recognized in the blazing colours of the awards won not just at the National level but also at the International level.

Professor Dinesh Samarasinghe elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Business

Prof. Dinesh Samarasinghe has been appointed as the Dean, Faculty of Business, with effect from 15th September 2023. He was graduated from University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka securing a B.Sc. Marketing Management (Special) Degree with a First-Class Honors’ Division in 2004. He obtained both MBA and PhD in Marketing from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He joined the University of Moratuwa academic staff as a Lecturer in 2006. Currently, he is a Professor attached to the Department of Industrial Management, University of Moratuwa.
