Message from the Head

The Department of Management of Technology (DMoT) was established in 1998 to accommodate the increasing demand for the discipline of technologyDepartment of Management of Technology management and allied fieldsin Sri Lanka. It has been rendering services to many undergraduate departments of the University of Moratuwa.

DMoT is the only academic department in the Sri Lankan University system dedicated to cater the Technology Management education and training needs.The teaching staff of the DMOT comprises of high caliber academics and specialists drawn from the industry.

For the BSc. Engineering undergraduate program of the faculty of Engineering, DMoT offers about 22 modules, covering the areas of Management, Technology Management & Entrepreneurship.

DMoT has initiated nurturing entrepreneurial competencies of the undergraduates of the Faculty of Engineering by offering a Minor Degree in Entrepreneurship. This program provides numerous opportunities for   BSc. Engineering Undergraduates get exposed to the world of venture creation and sparks their mind sets to become venture creators and techno-entrepreneurs rather than being mere job seekers.

For postgraduates, the department's main focus is on the two current postgraduate courses leading to Master of Business Administration/Postgraduate Diploma in Management of Technology (MBA in MoT) offered since 2001 and Master of Business Administration/Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship (MBA in Entrepreneurship) offered since 2016.Apart from Master of Business Administration programmes, the department offers M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees by research.

In addition, the department conducts custom built continuous professional development (CPD) programs for the industry, a number of tailor-made short-coursesfor practicing managers and executivesand undertakes research & consultancies on request by the industry.Its expert areasinclude Technology Innovation and Marketing, Quality Management,  Production and Operations Management,  Human Resource Management,Business Process Management (BPM), Management Information Systems (MIS) and   Supply Chain Management.

In order to assure the highest quality of its programs, the department maintains close collaborations with foreign Universities, professional institutes and industrial partners in conducting the degree programs.
