Are You Ready? 2010
‘Are You Ready?’ organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit is a main event in the university calendar which adorns the careers’ week of the University. This year marks the 16th ‘Are You Ready?’ since its inception in 1998. The main focus of the project, as is familiar to both the Rotaract community as well as the industry; was providing the passing out batch of our university with career prospects.
This years’ ‘Are You Ready?’ expanded to some fresh and different sessions which are added to offer exceptional knowledge on areas like career guidance and developing business trends and ultimately aimed to guide our undergraduates towards becoming effective leaders. PROGRAM OUTLINE:Company Presentations: 20th and 21st April 2010
This was held prior to the Flagship Day as a complementary project where the session basically guided undergraduates on what each company expects from them and what are the requirements they need to have as undergraduates to be probable candidates for employment. This session served as a fine occasion to reach the undergraduates of the university and increased the awareness about the company. Organizations received the opportunity to give the undergraduates an inspiration about their company through presentations. It also enabled companies to make the entire university aware about them and their role in the industry and generate an effective recognition among university students. Ed after Grad: 22nd April 2010“Ed after Grad” was a higher education program conducted for the under graduates of University of Moratuwa and was a new addition to the Are You Ready program outline from previous years. This program mainly focused on post graduate study opportunities at University of Moratuwa and other universities in Sri Lanka. The event was open for all under graduates but mainly targeted the final year students. Flagship Day: 23rd April 2010Interview panels from 30 different companies interviewed over 300 students in various disciplines in Engineering and IT faculty. Every student got a chance to face at least one interview and depending on the availability of their preferred companies, some had the opportunity of facing more than two interviews. Students were evaluated according to the Students Feedback Form supplied by us. It was filled by the interviewer and given back to the student after the interview session. We provided each company with a company coordinator preferably a club member & he/she was the responsible person for conducting interview sessions with less flaws. The panel coordinators (who were undergraduate students from level 1 and level 2) were benefited immensely by being able to interact with industry officials and being able to witness the interviewing procedures of companies. Are You Ready? ALMANAC" the graduate recruitment directory with contact details of all registered students included, was distributed among all company officials who participated in the event, to serve their future requirements of recruiting undergraduates. Our Strategic Partner DIMO and Gold Partner SLT were highly benefited through the presentations they had in our Inauguration ceremony of the Flagship day since the ceremony saw the participation of over 100 students in addition to the invitees and club members. Furthermore, apart from sponsors, companies who submitted their registrations in time got the chance of publishing their company description in the "Are You Ready? Almanac". Dining Etiquette and Grooming Workshop: 2nd May 2010This workshop focused on the customs and rules of polite behavior at professional standards. Organized for the 3rd consecutive year this event was open for the entire University community to participate at a modest price per head. The workshop rendered to be an enjoyable evening where the participants had a hands on experience on dining etiquette and gained much insight into the rules of polite society through the informative presentations carried out by Guest Speaker Mrs. Dilrukshi Kurukulasuriya |

Gift a Smile! This project patronized by the Rotaract club of University of Moratuwa, was introduced with the concept of gifting a smile to someone else as our birthday celebration. It is put into action monthly, with the special contribution of the Rotaractors who are the birthday-holders of that particular month. The event is organized as a combination of several activities along with the donation of the gifts and food items, to a particular crew which is identified as a party in need. As the initial step of this project, the July phase was successfully conducted on the 26th of July, 2010 at a children home at Kidelpitiya in Bandaragama. There were about 28 children occupied, where we could distribute some gift and food items, and enjoy several interesting activities with them. |

Handz Seminar Series
It was observed that many schools in rural areas lacked the basic facilities in learning. The standard of education in these was not pleasing. So the young rotractors of university of Moratuwa decided to give a helping hand to those in need. Thus Andiyagala Nawaloka Vidyalaya was chosen. It was decided to hold a seminar series to the students who are facing G.C.E. O/L examinations regarding the subject matters of maths and science. The dedication of the undergraduates in preparing themselves to guide the young students was appreciated by all. The first stage was conducted in October 2008 and was renowned to be a success. The students gained a lot of knowledge while the tutors gained satisfaction. The second stage of the seminar series was conducted on the 13th and 14th of March.
