Division Of Interdisciplinary Studies

The Division of Interdisciplinary Studies was formed with the establishment of the Institute of Technology of the University of Moratuwa in October 2000.  The Division conducts courses in English, Mathematics and Computer Science for the National Diploma in Technology students. The academic staff of the Division includes experienced teachers who had been serving in the Faculty of Engineering prior to the establishment of the Institute.

Mathematics courses conducted by the Division emphasize on teaching the basic concepts of Mathematics, the development of rational thinking in formulating and solving engineering and technical problems and the application of mathematical knowledge in solving practical problems. 

The Division conducts a foundation course in English for the new entrants to the Institute annually, prior to the commencement of the 1st year academic programme with the aim of improving English language skills of students so that they could follow the National Diploma in Technology course in the English medium with confidence after having studied in their mother tongue for over 12 years at school.  Thereafter all first year NDT students are required to follow English classes throughout the year and regular evaluation is conducted to assess students’ language proficiency and communication skills. 

The Division offers the course, Introduction to Information Technology to all first year students. A basic course in IT is offered to a selected number of students prior to the commencement of the first year academic programme.
