The Universities are expected to generate funds for conducting Postgraduate Courses and Research Degrees. The University Grants Commission (UGC) provides limited funds for research to be undertaken by Senior Staff of Universities. They have opportunities to obtain funds from the University for Research Scholars.
Postgraduate research Studies in the Faculty of Engineering are funded by :
Staff obtaining research grants from the University by applying to the Senate Research Committee, (Senate Research Grant) which administrators the University Research Fund. These grants could be used for purchase of capital and consumable items as well as payments for research scholars (or registered PG students), based on an approved budget. Collaborative research projects with foreign Universities, obtaining funds through foreign funding agencies such as CIDA, IDRC, ODA, JICA etc. For further details contact the relevant Department.
Industry related research projects, where the industry provides funds to conduct research in certain problems solving and product development.
In addition, a part of the tuition fees charged for research degrees may be used by the respective departments towards the research expenses.
Students who register while working on funded research projects are usually paid on allowance during the period of their studies. Refer Registration and Fees
Up to 80% of the tuition fees may be waived from students who have obtained at least a second class upper division in their first degree performance on the recommendation of the Head of the Department, if the research grants covers the cost of the research project entirely or partially.
