Postgraduate Diploma Program :

• B.Sc. Eng. Degree or its equivalent in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.
• Any other degree in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate, AND a minimum of one year of appropriate experience.
• At least the Associate Membership or Graduateship (as appropriate) of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field AND a minimum of one year of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership.

Master of Engineering Program :

• B.Sc. Eng., B.A.Sc. Degree, or any other Engineering Degree in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.
• At least the Associate Membership of a recognized professional engineering institute in a relevant field AND a minimum of ONE YEAR of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership.

Master of Science Program :

• B.Sc. Eng., B.A.Sc. Degree or other Engineering Degree in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.
• A Degree in Science in a relevant field AND minimum of ONE YEAR of appropriate experience
• Any other degree in a relevant field AND minimum of TWO YEARS of appropriate experience
• At least the Associate Membership or Graduateship (as appropriate) of a recognized professional engineering institute in a relevant field AND a minimum of one year of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership.
• At least the Associate Membership or Graduateship (as appropriate) of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field AND a minimum of two years of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership.

Master of Business Administration :

• A degree of Bachelor of Science of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, or
• Any other recognized degree in a relevant field accepted by the Faculty and approved by the Senate, or
• The Associate Membership, Graduateship (as appropriate) or equivalent of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field AND
• The Associate Membership, Graduateship (as appropriate) or equivalent of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field AND a minimum of one year of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership, acceptable to the Faculty and approved by the Senate, AND
• Relevant experience after having obtained the qualifications mentioned above. 

Master of Philosophy Program :

• M.Eng., M.Sc. or its equivalent in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.
• B.Sc. Eng. or its equivalent, B.A.Sc., B.Sc. (Special) with first or second class honours in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.
• B.Sc. Eng. or its equivalent or B.A.Sc., in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate AND at least 2 years of relevant industrial training and/or experience after graduation. Performance will be assessed after a minimum period of nine months of full-time study or an equivalent period of part-time study. If in the opinion of the Department, the performance of a student is unsatisfactory, the Senate, on the recommendation of the Faculty, may cancel the student's registration.
• B.Sc. Eng., B.A.Sc., B.Sc. (Special or General) or its equivalent in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate, with a special aptitude for research. The applicant may be initially considered for admission for an unspecified degree for at least one calendar year or FULL TIME STUDY, and, thereafter, may be registered for the M.Phil. Degree on the basis of the performance at a qualifying examination.

Doctor of Philosophy Program :

• A Master’s degree in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate

• B.Sc. Eng. or its equivalent, of merit not less than Second Class Upper Division, in a relevant field as judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.

• Normally the candidate is initially registered for an Unclassified Postgraduate Research Degree, and the transfer of registration to the Ph.D. degree is made by the senate on the recommendation of the Faculty after a minimum period of one year of satisfactory progress.

• Students registered in a MPhil.  Degree program by research, may be considered for transfer of registration to the Ph.D. Degree program by the Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty after a minimum period of one year of satisfactory progress, provided the candidate has satisfied the eligibility requirements mentioned above or after a minimum period of eighteen months of satisfactory progress provided that he/she has obtained registration for a Master's Degree programme by research (M.Phil.) and has published or has proof of acceptance for publication in referred journals, at least two research papers.

• A lecturer of the University of the grade of Senior Lecturer Grade II and above may apply to the Senate for special permission for registration for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
